Our 11+ preparation focuses on developing the core skills assessed within modern entrance examinations, including:

• Problem-solving and non-verbal reasoning tasks where appropriate
• Examination technique and time management
Entrance examinations have evolved considerably over recent years and are often less predictable than they once were. Rather than relying solely on practising question types, we focus on developing the strong English and Maths foundations, reasoning skills and academic confidence that children need to tackle unfamiliar challenges successfully.

Start Early for the Best Chance of Success
One of the most important things parents should know about the 11+ is that the entrance examinations for Year 7 entry are usually taken at the very beginning of Year 6. This means that children are effectively sitting these highly competitive tests while still in Year 5.
As a result, successful candidates are typically working well above age-related expectations long before the examination takes place. We therefore strongly recommend beginning preparation during Year 4 wherever possible, allowing plenty of time to develop the advanced English, Maths and reasoning skills required. Starting early reduces pressure, builds confidence and gives children the best opportunity to fulfil their potential.

Local Grammar School Entrance Exams
We prepare students for the entrance examinations used by local selective grammar schools, including:

• Heckmondwike Grammar School
These schools currently use the same test provider, allowing us to offer targeted preparation using carefully selected resources and materials that reflect the style and challenge of the assessments.
